What to Expect at Surgery
  • Standard pre-operative testing, if not completed within 6 months by your physician, will be completed within seven days prior to surgery. This testing will include an EKG, Chest X-ray, labs (CBC, CMP, and UA) and other X-rays and labs depending on your diagnosis.
  • Any medical problems must be fully evaluated and stabilized with documentation prior to surgery.
  • Stop Aspirin, Motrin and other anti-inflammatories 7-10 days prior to surgery. Stop Coumadin and Heparin 3-5 days prior to surgery. We will consult with your cardiologist.
  • Nothing to eat or drink after midnight (8 hours prior to surgery)
  • If on medications, take the night before, do not take them in the A.M. of surgery with the exception of hypertensive medications. They should be taken with a small sip of water the A.M. of surgery. Bring all medications with you the A.M. of surgery and let the nurse know what you have taken that A.M. (if any).
  • Withhold all herbal products two weeks prior to surgery.
  • Other orders may be given depending on what type of surgery you will be undergoing.
